The first grooming visit is one of the most important experiences in your puppy's life. A positive first experience creates a dog that's relaxed and cooperative at the groomer for years to come. A stressful one can create lasting anxiety. Here's how to set your puppy up for success.

When to Book the First Visit

Most puppies are ready for their first professional groom between 12–16 weeks, after their second round of vaccinations. Earlier than this, their immune systems aren't strong enough to be around other animals safely.

What We Do Differently for Puppies

Our "Puppy's First Groom" session is specifically designed to be an introduction, not a full groom. We focus on getting your puppy comfortable with the sounds, smells, and sensations of the grooming environment before we do any actual styling.

How to Prepare at Home

  • Handle your puppy's paws, ears, and mouth daily from a young age
  • Introduce them to the sound of a hairdryer from a distance
  • Give treats during handling to create positive associations
  • Bring their favourite toy or blanket for comfort
  • Avoid feeding a large meal right before the visit

After the Visit

Expect your puppy to be tired β€” new experiences are mentally exhausting for young dogs. Give them a quiet space to rest and lots of gentle praise.
